This week’s feature is the Hero Arts Dandelion Stamp

Every week I will feature a stamp that we have in stock at the shop and I’ll pin as many ideas as I can find to our One Little Stamp board on Pinterest. I might even play along and make a card myself if I have time! Click on the link below to see eight great ideas featuring the Dandelion Stamp from Hero Arts.

Mojo Monday – Sketch Challenge

 MOJO MONDAY: Sketch Challenge

A good sketch never goes astray, and when you’re stuck for ideas it can be as simple as turning to the pages of a magazine or PageMaps.com to jumpstart your mojo.

This week your challenge is to create a layout, card or altered project that features one of the sketches below. You don’t have to follow the sketch exactly, it’s just a springboard for your creativity. Replace the butterflies with stars or circles or other embellishments – change up the photo sizes, turn the whole sketch on its side – the possibilities are infinite!

If you’re not on Facebook and you want to play along, email us a picture of your project or comment with a link to your Blog. :)

AccuCut Die of the Week is “Butterfly #8 Small″

AccuCut Butterfly #8 Small

With three sizes of butterflies on this die, you can layer the wings and give dimension to your projects. Use this shape on scrapbook pages, cards, bags or even as name tags. Stop by The Paperie this week to die-cut these three cute butterflies in any colour of Bazzill cardstock that we have in our scrap bin (or bring your own!) Maybe you’ll even be inspired to use the die-cut on your Mojo Monday entry ;)

This past October the owners of The Paperie offered me the trip and experience of a lifetime and sent me, along with one of the owners, Chris, to Houston for the Collins Group Rep Show. To say I was overwhelmed and way too excited the whole time would be an understatement! I took classes from Tim Holtz, Jennifer McGuire…

Feature Friday: Guest Blogger Krista Wells!

Happy Friday everyone! It’s Krista Wells here, part of The Paperie’s monthly kit design team, popping in for a guest blogging spot today.

I hope some of you were lucky enough to get your hands on our January kit but even if you weren’t, you can certainly benefit from my tips today using any chipboard letters you have in your stash.

For the January kit I made this layout of my adorable godson Liam. I wanted a simple title but I wanted something that stood out against the white and gold-misted background without being too much. So, I grabbed my American Crafts pen and a set of letters that I had punched out using some cardstock and the Accucut machine at The Paperie and set to work.

I lined up my letters, starting on the right to make sure I had enough room for the words that I wanted. Then I traced them with the blue American Crafts pen. Any pen will do really! Now, if you are a perfectionist like me you might hate when you trace a line and it’s a little ‘off’ or a little wobbly. Well, I’ve mastered the “perfectionist way” of fixing this. When I’m done all my letters I simply take away the chipboard letters and retrace my lines, letting them be a little ‘imperfect’. I’m not usually a doodler but I like this technique a lot. It’s an ‘imperfect’ perfect for me.

Of course this is a great technique for the doodler too. If you like doodling you’ll love this technique, which can be used with any die-cut shapes you’ve purchased or cut out yourself.

This is a great way to make titles when you runn out of certain letters. I am always short an ‘e’ when I create layouts. For the same reason, this technique is great for long titles because you don’t need the physical letters.

It’s also a good way to keep a layout from being too bulky. In fact, this would be perfect for titles for a project life album or Smash Book to prevent your album from getting too chunky.

I hope I’ve given you some motivation to try this technique. You just might find that you like it! If you try this technique and want to share, upload your layout to The Paperie Community page on Facebook!

Have a wonderful weekend!

xoxo

Mojo Monday – Banner Year

MOJO MONDAY: Shape Challenge

2012 is another “Banner Year”, with pennants and banners popping up everywhere in the trends. Owls are still going strong after four years, so we can probably expect this banner trend to continue too!

This week your challenge is to create a layout, card or altered project that features a Banner. It doesn’t have to be pennant flags, get creative by using other shapes like hearts, stars, circles, alphabet letters, a string of photos, etc.

If you play along with our challenge you should share your work by uploading your project to our Mojo Monday Group on Facebook! We also have a new Facebook Club called The Paper Community where you can share ANY paper projects you make – no holds barred! We’d love to see your work!

If you’re not on Facebook and you want to play along, email us a picture of your project or comment with a link to your Blog. :)

AccuCut Die of the Week is “Borders #4″

Pennants are all the rage and you can use our AccuCut die to cut a whole string of pennants at one time (12″ long, includes two layering pennant mats for accent shapes plus a pretty scalloped border). Stop by The Paperie this week to die-cut one of these cute borders in any colour of Bazzill cardstock that we have in our scrap bin (or bring your own!) Maybe you’ll even be inspired to use the die-cut on your Mojo Monday entry ;)

Guest Blogger: Cathie Reed!

Hi everyone! It’s Cathie guest blogging today to talk about stencils and share an awesome stencil tutorial.

You’ve probably noticed that stencils are very popular right now.  Let’s be honest – they’re everywhere! There are designs for every crafter’s style and they look amazing on any project you can imagine.  All you need to get started is a stencil  (either bought or handmade) and some inks or sprays or paint or embossing powders or… Well, you get the idea.

If you don’t like inky fingers, no worries, just use a pen/pencil to trace the stencil onto paper (patterned or plain) and cut it out. In fact, that’s how I used my favourite stencil, Chevron by Balzer Designs for The Crafters Workshop, on this layout…

To show you how I made those chevron stripes, it’s time for that awesome tutorial.

Julie Fei-Fan Balzer, the creative genius behind my favourite stencil, has a great video on her blog showing how to create the chevron stripes. Julie uses a 12×12 stencil and even though I only have the 6×6 it still works. Just check out the video and be amazed.  I know I was.

Click here to watch the video!

Now it’s your turn.  Go dig out your stencils, use it on your next project and post your pics on The Paperie’s new Community Page on Facebook !

Remember ink washes off so have fun!

Mojo Monday – Resistable

Mojo Monday

This week our Mojo Monday Challenge is to use to Resist Technique on your card, layout or project. This will be an easy one for those of you who purchased our January Club kit because the Mistables papers are irresistably Resistable! :)

Here’s one of the cards we posted yesterday, made by Design Team Member Cathie Reed. This card features our Die-Cut of the week and the mistables paper, altered with a lovely coral shade of Mist. The sparkly bronze die-cut heart adds a little rustic bling.

AccuCut Die of the Week is “Hearts #1″

Stop by The Paperie this week to die-cut one of these hearts in any colour of Bazzill cardstock that we have in our scrap bin. Maybe you’ll even be inspired to use the die-cut on your Mojo Monday entry ;)

If you play along with our challenge you should share your work by uploading your project to our Mojo Monday Group on Facebook! We also have a new Facebook Club called The Paper Community where you can share ANY paper projects you make – no holds barred! We’d love to see your work!

If you’re not on Facebook and you want to play along, email us a picture of your project or comment with a link to your Blog!

January Club Kit – Design Team Spotlight

Here are the fabulous projects by our Design Team Members for this months Club Kit, Cathie Reed and Krista Wells! We love how both team members maximized their Fancy Pants Holiday Embellishments – now is a great time to catch up on some holiday scrapbooking, but those little tags and bits can be used in other ways too – flip them over and use the shape as a journaling block or use them as masks for your spray mists! These pictures don’t do justice to these projects, you should definitely come have a look in person! The first 12 pictures are Cathie’s projects and the second half are Krista’s.

My favourite way to alter the Prima Mistables paper is with the Ranger Distress Inks and Ink Blending tools. You can also use Distress Stains, LuminArte Twinkling H2O paints, Mists, Sprays, Chalk, and more!

Our Mojo Monday challenge might just involve the resist technique, so stay tuned tomorrow for more details! We will also be revealing our new AccuCut Showcase tomorrow, which will be tied in with Mojo Monday every week. But don’t worry, you can still participate from home without coming into to the shop ;)

I spy….

Today, on the world wide web, I spy with my little eye…

NEW AccuCut flower dies AND the Prima Mistables Paper featured in our January Club Kit, both used on Cheryl Mezzetti’s layout on the LuminArte Blog

We’re shakin’ up the Blog a little bit in the new year. Gone are the days of structured Monday-Wednesday-Friday posts, now we could have anywhere from 1-8 blog posts in one week! Some weeks will be busier than others, but we think you’ll be pleased with the new content.

Don’t fret, Mojo Monday will remain our one constant and we still plan to showcase our AccuCut dies as much as possible. Look for more features on the newest product in stock, some old favourites and a new monthly feature called One Little Stamp.

Of course we love seeing what you’re all working on as much as our other readers, so please keep sharing your projects over on our newest Facebook page, The Paperie Community and we might even publish your projects here on our Blog!
