Mojo Monday – DIY

Mojo Monday DIY Challenge: Handmade Embellishment

This week your challenge is to create a layout, card or mini book that features a DIY (Do it Yourself) embellishment. Be creative – whether it is an embellished tag, a fussy-cut stamped image, or something you’ve upcycled, the options are wide open. You can use any technique and supplies as long as you have handcrafted the embellishment yourself.

If you play along with our challenge you should share your art by uploading your project to our Mojo Monday Group on Facebook! We also have a Facebook Club called The Paper Community where you can share ANY paper projects you make – no holds barred! We’d love to see your work!

If you’re not on Facebook and you want to play along, comment with a link to your Blog or email us a picture of your project. :)

This adorable card was created by Denise Tilley for one of our previous challenges (A Banner Year). I love her DIY flags made with sticks and paper – so cute! Upload your projects to our Mojo Monday Gallery and maybe you’ll see your card appear on our site sometime soon!

We had a great turnout at the Devotion Wedding show yesterday at the Convention Center. February is always an incredibly busy month for us, booking and preparing bridal orders for summer weddings. It was great to see so many happy faces, and if you happened to pop by our booth and liked what you saw, we encourage you to call us and make an appointment with Meghan! :)

We took some pictures of our booth, take a peek at our new photo gallery on The Paperie Wedding Invitations Facebook page.

Pin To Win: Tie-breaker!

Well, we deliberated after noticing that Alexis tied with Sara for top picks. The tie-breaker vote came from Colleen R. whose vote had actually been removed so that we wouldn’t accidentally count it among the “Voter Prize” due to having a Pin To Win Board. HOWEVER! We feel her vote should count as the tie-breaker since she was sweet enough to vote for one of her fellow competitors. Great sportsmanship, and we’ll have to dig something out of our magical prize drawer for her :)

The tie-breaker vote was for…. *drumroll*… ALEXIS O!

Congratulations Alexis!

The best part?? The Paperie will choose one mystery item from your Top 10 Picks for your prize!

Now for the VOTERS, the randomly chosen winners are….

KAREN Y

and

ELISABETH P

We will also choose some fun CHA goodies for your prizes too!

Ladies, we will notify the three of you as soon as your prizes have arrived in stock. The first wave of CHA orders has just started shipping, and we’ll continue to see stuff ship every other week for the next two or three months. Are y’all as excited as we are??

One Little Stamp – Zig Zag

This week our featured stamp is the Hero Arts Zig Zag Background which was released with the Hero Arts 2012 Catalog in December. There are already dozens of fantastic ideas popping up all over the internet, and we’ve pinned a small fraction of those fab ideas to our One Little Stamp board on Pinterest.

Here’s a card we pinned which Meghan made for our February Make’n'Take.

Be sure to pop back every week to see which stamp we’ve featured. We’d love to see any cards you’ve made with the Zig Zag background, or anything you’ve made recently that’s been inspired by our Blog or Pinterest pins! Upload to The Paperie Community on Facebook if you feel like sharing! :)

This weekend we debuted our February Club Kit during our Cupcake Event and we are almost sold out again! The best way to get your hands on these hot little kits is to join up for a six month subscription. Sara had some great things to say about our kit (and kits in general) over on her blog today.

Here’s a peek at all of the February Design Team projects, made by Wendy Skinner and Rae Lynn O’Keefe using our Club Kit. The Amy Tangerine “The Little Things” Daybooks that we planned to include in the kits did not arrive until the day before our debut, so Wendy offered to use Amy’s Hug Life mini book as a substitute to show you how to create scrapbook with these adorable quirky books. Can you believe these projects were all made in 9 days or less?!

The first 8 pictures are Rae Lynn’s projects (I  love how she altered the bright pink ribbon with distress ink (see close-up). The rest of the pictures are from Wendy’s projects, including a few pages from her mini book. Click on each thumbnail to view the larger pictures.

AccuCut Die of the Week will move toThursdays! :)

Scratch Ticket Tutorial

I found this idea on Pinterest, and couldn’t wait to try it! When we confirmed that Sweet Love Bake Shoppe would be coming back to The Paperie the weekend before Valentine’s, we knew we had to sweeten the deal for such a special occasion.

Picture one shows all the supplies, two shows the mask in action, three shows one coat of paint, and the last picture shows the first ticket I made scratched to reveal the discount below! This would be so fun for a Kid’s birthday party! :)

To start, I added a little squirt of dish liquid to some silver paint and mixed it with a toothpick. After printing my little scratch tickets, I covered the box that contains the discount with a small piece of clear packing tape. I was able to paint inside the lines just as well without the mask, so I discarded it and painted freehand.

I painted one layer and set the tickets aside to dry, then came back to add a second layer which was enough to conceal the discount so it could not be read through the paint. You can see in my prototype that the discount box was larger, but I smartened up with the final version. It saved us all some trouble in the long run; I didn’t have to paint as much and thus you won’t need to spend an extra 5 seconds scratching :)

Tomorrow with any Paperie product purchase, you will receive a scratch ticket which must be scratched at the cash desk. A discount will be revealed of 20%, 30%, 40% or 50% off one product! (One per person).

Can’t wait for some yummy cupcakes tomorrow, hope to see you there!

Spoiler Alert! Class Peeks

We have some great events and classes this month!

A ‘Sweet Love’ Saturday at The Paperie

Sweet Love Bake Shoppe and The Paperie are hooking up again to make this Saturday even sweeter!

For those of you that missed out last year, this ONE DAY event is your chance to purchase a variety of delicious gourmet cupcakes from Sweet Love Bake Shoppe – with no minimum purchase required. You can take home one or you can take home a dozen!

The Cupcake Sale is CASH ONLY, and runs from 10am-5pm (or until cupcakes sell out*).

Any Paperie Purchase made on February 11th will be elligible for a scratch and win ticket valid on the same day, simply scratch the box to reveal the discount percentage! Discounts of 10% – 50% off will be available to win – one day only!

*While we do our very best to estimate quantities, these cupcakes do have a tendency to sell quickly! RSVP to our Facebook event so we can better predict demand, and we also recommend calling ahead if you plan on stopping in after 1pm on Saturday.

Here is a sneak peek at two of our upcoming classes!

Scrap Happy Layouts – Tuesday, February 21st (6:30pm)

With so many pictures and so little time, many of us need a springboard to get our ideas started. Scraplifting is borrowing and using ideas and designs from somebody else’s already created layout to inspire you to complete your own pages. As long as you are giving credit where credit is due and not submitting your work for publication or payment, Scraplifting is a very common and encouraged practice in our scrapbooking community! Join us as we re-create 2 layouts from the most recent publication of Scrapbook Trends magazine using lots of fun materials. This is a great class for someone who is interested in having their pages done and ready to go in albums by the end of the class. Suitable for all levels of experience – check out the picture below!
Members $20.00
Non-members $40.00

Pin to Win Tips….

Hey folks, the deadline for pinning your Pinterest boards is this Friday night at 11:59pm. We will post the links to everyones boards first thing on Saturday morning here on the blog. The voting will take place in the comments section of that blog post from Saturday morning until Sunday evening at 11:59pm.

Here are some GREAT tips for creating your Pinterest Board for the contest (you have two days to edit!)….

1) Explain why you love each item or tell us how you plan to use it!

2) Do a little internet sleuthing and see how the company’s Designers have used one of the products on your wish list.

3) NEW: Here’s an extra opportunity to help your board stand out! You may pin FIVE additional pins which show projects that showcase five of the products on your Top 10 list!

Please remember: you can only pin TEN produts + 5 projects. That’s 15 Pins maximum.

Don’t forget that TWO VOTERS will be randomly selected to win a fun prize, and the Pinterest user with the most votes on their board will win a prize too! :)

Pin to Win!

We would LOVE to see your Top 10 lists from CHA, so we have a fun contest for our local Pinterest addicts (and local readers too). There are prizes involved so take a moment to read a little further :)

We challenge YOU to create your own Pinterest board called ”My Top 10 CHA Must-Haves” with the TEN things (no more and no less) that you LOVED from all of the releases at CHA. Please comment here if you are on Pinterest and you intend to play along.

For the rest of you who don’t have Pinterest accounts, don’t fret! You will play an important role in this contest which also includes a chance to win a prize! We want you to VOTE on the best Top 10 Pinterest Board from our local Pinners! We will provide the links to their Top 10 CHA lists here in a Blog post and then YOU will comment on that post with your vote for the board you identify with the most.

The Person/Board with the most votes will win a super fun prize, AND we will also randomly draw TWO winners from all the voters to win prizes too! It’s not a popularity contest, we want you to pick the board that you feel best represents YOUR tastes, and if you want to start a Pinterest account instead to play along we say “go for it”! This contest is open to residents within Newfoundland & Labrador only.

The deadline is Sunday, February 12th at 11:59pm! :)
