Mojo Monday – Making Waves

We are getting back on track with our Blog this week and have a fun Mojo Monday Challenge for all of you, whether you’re a cardmaker or a Scrapbooker…

Use a scalloped edge somewhere on your project. You can use Scalloped Bazzill Cardstock or patterned paper, decorative edged scissors or dig out that corner rounder to make a scalloped border – see the link below to learn how!

We have found a quick YouTube video tutorial that shows you how to use your small, medium or large Corner Rounder in a new and exciting way. I actually owned mine for a whole year before I read the packaging one day and discovered that the paper guard was removable! I’ve since come across many others who were also unaware of the multi-functionality of their corner rounders, so get ready to discover the tool you didn’t even know you had!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5RuECPPnx0

We’ll be back throughout the week to show you several projects that feature different Scalloped Edges - including a Card and a Layout, as well as a Mini Album and a Wedding Invitation made with our AccuCut Die-Cutting system. Stay tuned!

Link of the Week

Our Link of The Week this Monday will lead you right to Canadian Scrapbooker’s Page Call for Submissions…

 http://www.canadianscrapbooker.ca/CMS_2008/?page_id=7

Canadian Scrapbooker is one of our favourite publications but we have noticed a small problem – maybe you have spotted it too? There just isn’t enough content from Newfoundland & Labrador! When Jackie Ludlage (Co-founder and Editor in Chief) visited us in the summer, we asked her about it and she said there just aren’t that many submissions coming from the province. Well, we’ve seen some of your work Paperie Patrons! We KNOW you’ve got what it takes to get published, so what are you waiting for? SUBMIT your layouts and projects!

Deadline for the Summer 2009 Page Call: Jan 15, 2009 – that’s fast approaching so get on it!

Paperie Design Team Member, Jeannette French, was published in the Summer 2006 Issue of Canadian Scrapbooker and word has it that one of our customers, Gail Bidgood, will be featured in the upcoming Spring Issue. Another familiar face at the Paperie, Peggy Fennemore, was featured awhile back on the Canadian Scrapbooker website – so why not YOU? Submitting for Page Calls is far less competitive than submitting for contests, like their Inspiration Challenge – but why not enter that too?!

Speaking of contests, Hero Arts has a GREAT challenge over on their Blog this week – it’s all about LAYERING. Using layers of paper and embellishments on your projects to add texture and interest (and use up some scraps in the process).

The 2009 Hero Arts Catalog has FINALLY been revealed on their Blog this week - check it out! Let us know which of their exciting new stamps that you’d like to Pre-Order by Friday.

Link of the Week – Stamp Anatomy

Here’s another fantastic Link from one of our favourite companies, A Muse Art Stamps. They have broken down the whole stamp anatomy and demystified the “art of stamping”. Even if you’ve been stamping for years, there is some great information on this page for helping you achieve the perfect stamped image every time.

We hope you’ll find this link as informative as we did!

Link of the Week – Ribbon Slot Punching Tool

The Link of the Week this Monday is a YouTube video demonstrating the Paper & Ribbon Slot Punching Tool from Making Memories. The thing that we love most about this tool is that the different heads can be used with the Making Memories Instant Setter or with the included attachment and a hammer.  Check out all the great features of this cool product, new to The Paperie:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vJmAFNYShA

Tip: The crescent notch punch is also great for holding vellum in place on  your page – no more worries about tape showing through!

There are a bunch of other great Demonstration videos on YouTube under the MakingMemories123 Profile, including a video on how to use the Making Memories Instant Setter as well as the “old school” tool used with a hammer.

Tuesday’s Tip – Purchasing Albums & Refill Pages

Purchasing Scrapbook Albums & Refills

This week’s tip is a handy one when it comes to purchasing your Scrapbook Albums. There are a few things you should always make a note of before throwing out the packaging…

  • a) where you bought your album
  • b) the manufacturer (ie: Making Memories, Pulp, etc)
  • c) how many pages are included (most should include 10 page protectors)
  • d) is your album post-bound, strap hinged, or a 3-ring binder? *

It might surprise you to know that every manufactuer makes their albums a little differently, and although it’s often assumed that all 12×12 Albums are the same, there are subtle differences that could make it tricky when it comes time to buy album refills and post extenders. For instance Pulp has 3 posts in their albums and their post extenders are included along with their album refills. Making Memories has just 2 posts in their albums and they sell larger posts as opposed to post extenders, while their album refills are sold separately.

If you are unsure of your Album manufactuer or you are having trouble finding refills that fit your album, it might be a good idea to remove all the pages that came with the album and save them for a smaller project (like a gift scrapbook) and replace them with all new refills in the desired quantity. When doing this, just bring one page protector from your album along to the shop and match it up to the closest pack of refills you can find – who knows, you may even find a perfect match – it’s rare but it does happen!

* Are you unsure of the difference between post-bound or strap hinged? Check out this informative link for detailed descriptions of each album style: www.scrapfriends.us/articles/album_id.html
