Scrap Happy Layouts – Tuesday, February 21st (6:30pm)

With so many pictures and so little time, many of us need a springboard to get our ideas started. Scraplifting is borrowing and using ideas and designs from somebody else’s already created layout to inspire you to complete your own pages. As long as you are giving credit where credit is due and not submitting your work for publication or payment, Scraplifting is a very common and encouraged practice in our scrapbooking community! Join us as we re-create 2 layouts from the most recent publication of Scrapbook Trends magazine using lots of fun materials. This is a great class for someone who is interested in having their pages done and ready to go in albums by the end of the class. Suitable for all levels of experience – check out the picture below!

Non-members $40.00

Card Class Sneak Peek – R.I.P.

We’ve been super busy preparing and hosting events for our A*MUSE*A*PALOOZA event this month, but things should return to normal on the blog on August 1st. In the meantime, we thought you might like to see one of the cards we made in last night’s card class featuring new A Muse stamps…

Stamps used: Cemetary Row and Bare Branch, plus new Onyx 8.5×11 paper. To create this card we used Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Scattered Straw and Dried Marigold, blending the colours to create our spooky sky. The trees are stamped and embossed with black versacolor and clear-red glitter embossing powder.

Be sure to check out the muses Blogs for more *A*MUSE*A*PALOOZA sneak peeks this week! We still have room in our make’n'take today, and have extended the time to 7:30 – so pop on by and make a cool winter card to beat the summer heat!

Flower Power – Fancy Florals

Hello – as promised yesterday, here’s a peek at the four cards we made in our A Muse Fancy Florals card making class last night with our very own official A Muse Instructor, Meghan Fahey… the first card features that big beautiful Marigold stamp, a fast favourite among class participants last night…

The petals are painted with Taffty Smooch ink – to make it go further, we dabbed it onto anacrylic block and then used an Aquaflow H2O brush to spread the colour out, using the actual Smooch applicator afterward to touch up certain petals for more opacity and dimension. Here’s a close-up to capture the shimmer of the Smooch…

The next card features the solid Marigold stamped with Ladybug Memento Ink, then cut out and touched up with the Lipstick Red Spica. Some Cranberry Pretty Pearls were thrown in for good measure.

Here’s the crowd favourite, featuring the Queen Anne’s Lace and Dill stamps, embossed with Versamark and White embossing powder. You can’t quite see it in the photograph, but there’s a sprinkle of sparkle on the tips of the flowers, added with Crystal stickles.

And lastly we have a gate-fold card made with the Scor-pal. The Bursting Blooms stamp was made to look like dandelions for this card, we coloured directly onto the rubber stamp with Tombow markers and then “huffed” on the ink to moisten it before stamping on the white paper. We then used the Tombow blender pen to spread the colour around on the flower before adding orange and yellow stickles for extra effect.

As mentioned yesterday, we will be hosting another Fancy Florals Class later in July after the A*MUSE*A*PALOOZA hoopla. In Fancy Florals Part II, we will use some older and newer A Muse floral stamps to create four different cards, using different products and techniques. If you missed out on last nights class, you will definitely want to sign up for the next one!

Valentine Class Showcase

Today we have a Class showcase featuring Valentines made in last night’s A Muse Class with Certified A Muse Artstamps Instructor, Meghan Fahey.

We had a blast creating cards with these fun images from the A Muse Sea of Love release - ya gotta love the fact that these images can work all year long, and many work with some of the older A Muse images as well. Meghan incorporated the Treasure chest and the Sailboat into these cards to show how older stamps in your stash can jive with the latest release.

Class Sneak Peek

Today we have a fun sneak peek to share with you, featuring Sara’s layout for her upcoming Christmas Memories Class here at The Paperie this weekend. See that awesome title? Sara created that with PLAIN white Glossy paper and alcohol inks – you’ll have to sign up for the class to see how its done, we still have a couple of spaces left so don’t delay!

Christmas Memories Class, Sunday Jan. 31

Starting in February, Guest Designer Sara Case Strickland has a BIG idea planned for a year-long album class - you’ll have to stay tuned to the Blog for details in the coming week.

AccuCut Class Showcase

Hope you’re all enjoying the CHA updates that Chris and Janna have been posting from California. I am so excited for their return – can’t wait to hear all the news this year. And how COOL is it that Vicki Boutin will be featuring the NEW Ranger Distress Inks in her upcoming class here at The Paperie in March (less than 2 months away!)

Today we have a quick update to show you the project we made in my A Muse Stationery Set Class the other night, featuring one of  my favourite dies from AccuCut, the Card Portfolio…

I’m EXTRA excited to see all of the new AccuCut dies released at CHA this year – I always feel like a kid at Christmas time when Chris and Janna return from California with their list of orders. I have my fingers crossed for a cupcake die (go figure, right?) :)

And now I have some WINNERS to announce from the Hero Arts Make’n'Takes we did earlier this month. Everyone received a ballot for each make’n'take they participated in. The Winners of the random draw are…

SONYA CLARKE CASEY

STEPHANIE ROBERTS

EVELYN STOCKLEY

And the winner of the bonus prize is…

EVA JANES

AND finally, the winner of last week’s challenge is KIM JOYCE! We have a Clear Designs Alphabet stamp set here for you! Thanks for sending in the photo of your storage system, Kim!

Congratulations winners, we have a Clear Designs Stamp set here for each of you! Thanks for participating!

AccuCut Showcase – Day Planner

Today we have a very special AccuCut Showcase for you featuring the beautiful A Muse Day Planner that Guest Instructor Sara Case Strickland created and taught in a class this past Sunday. For the cover of this functional day planner Sara used the Sun, Leaf, Mitten, Umbrella and Sailboat from the AccuCut Holidays II Die-cut set.

This A Muse Calendar will make such a fantastic handmade gift for the holidays! Click on each individual thumbnail to see all the details for each month. In order to print the full version of the calendar Sara flipped the PDF file to print portrait instead of landscape, changing the settings for the paper size to 8.5×16 – this caused the calendar to print at the bottom of the page and left room for a bit of stamping and scrapbooking at the top.

By printing on the back of the A Muse Lined Paper, each month has its own corresponding place for notes, grocery lists, birthdays, etc. If you’re a Scrapbooker, this is a great place to record journaling for your layouts – jot down the funny things your kids say and other daily musings that you want to remember!

Don’t forget to leave a comment pertaining to Monday’s Blog Post for a chance to win a fun prize!

Tricks & Treats Sneak Peeks

Hello again everyone – the last Blog post was overflowing with information so I thought I would make another one, rather than wait until tomorrow to post – two in one day (don’t get used to it ;) )

This Sunday at 1:00pm we are having our SPoOkY Halloween Tricks & Treats Class. In this class we will create two interactive cards (or “Trick cards”, as I call them) and an Acetate Treat box (filled with treats!). Here’s a sneak peek at two of the cards we will be making on Sunday.

Sunday, October 18th – Halloween Tricks & Treats (1:00pm)
This is the perfect weekend class for those of you who love Halloween as much as we do! We will create two interactive Halloween “trick” cards and a Treat box (filled with treats!). We will be featuring A Muse Artstamps in all three projects, and will use the AccuCut Machine to create the treat box with acetate.  Even if you don’t typically send out Halloween cards, this is a fun class you won’t want to miss out on!

Non-Members: $26.00

Mojo Monday – Think Outside the Page

Mojo Monday Challenge for September 21st: Use Scrapbooking techniques or materials to make art for your walls!

This can be as simple as framing a few of your favourite scrapbook papers for quick, inexpensive artwork – I used cheap clip frames and some 12×12 Fancy Pants paper to decorate my bathroom. The best part is that they can be switched out when you get bored – and you can still use them afterward!

Despite the name “Scrapbooking”, not all layouts have to end up in a book – the class Sara taught yesterday was a perfect example of that. Check out the two beautiful canvases she created for class using 8×8 canvases, Making Memories paint and October Afternoon papers and die-cuts.

The adorable altered clothespins were a stroke of genius, allowing you to swap out the pictures in the future. What grandparent wouldn’t love to receive this as a Christmas gift? Personalize your child’s bedroom door with a Canvas featuring their favourite colours, including their name and a candid shot. List some “isms” for the journaling – you know what I’m talking about – those fun and tell-tale characteristics and quirks that make your child unique. Hang a Canvas of your dog or cat above their basket or favourite napping place. You can even make a unique and beautiful wedding gift using a photograph of the bride and groom.

There are lots of options when it comes to Scrapbooking on the wall – you can create a larger collage using co-ordinating papers and different sized canvases like the project we showed you last year. There are tons of different ideas for taking Scrapbooking to the next level – it IS an artform so why not showcase your art around the home!

Mojo Monday – Branch out

Welcome back to our weekly Mojo Monday challenge! Your mission, should you choose to accept it is…

TRY SOMETHING NEW!

I’ve had this challenge in mind since Friday and imagine my surprise when I checked the Hero Arts blog today only to see that they have the exact same challenge!

For this layout I have tried lots of new things! For starters, I used the new Pool Smooch Ink in a few different ways. I was amazed how easily you can use this ink as a colouring tool. One of the floral embellishments was stamped and embossed with the A Muse Open Zinnia stamp and then I used the Pool Smooch ink to colour in the flower. I didn’t even have to worry about staying inside the lines because the ink doesn’t stick to the embossed part of the image. The Hero Arts Heart Winged Butterfly was painted in a similar way, but I thinned out the Smooch ink by first applying it to an acrylic block and then picking up the colour with my H20 Water color brush.

If you would like to try out these techniques and more, give us a call or drop by the store to reserve a kit (while supplies last). This layout was loosely based on a sketch by Anna Bowkis of www.pencillines.com, as seen on the AccuCut Blog last week.

So what are you waiting for? GET SCRAPPING! We’ve all seen a zillion techniques that we’d love to try – some of us have even bought all the supplies and just haven’t gotten around to it. This is your reminder to dig it out and get ‘er done! And most importantly, have fun!

Try some of these wonderful inking techniques taught by Jennifer McGuire of Hero Arts – these videos are a fantastic way to get inspired and try something new!

Christmas Card Showcase

This Monday past we had another jam-packed Christmas class, featuring a set of NEW Hero Arts Holiday stamps. Check out the three cards we made in class, as well as the extra samples we provided for additional inspiration!

Don’t miss our upcoming Christmas Card Classes on September 29th, October 3rd and October 27th!
