We are featured on the AccuCut Blog today for their Store Spotlight – check it out!

www.accucut.typepad.com

Feel free to leave a comment on their Blog and let them know how much you love using the AccuCut System! :)

Look for our Booth at Devotion, the Wedding Show on November 1st at the Convention Center downtown. We were overwhemed by the positive response to our AccuCut demonstrations at the Spring Wedding Show this past March so we will be doing it again!

In other news, remember I mentioned my friend Ally in last Wednesday’s blog post? I made the annoucements for Ally & Jon’s new baby girl, Sarah… well she was photographed by Lori Moss yesterday and the photos are AMAZING! Check it out…

AccuCut Showcase – Making Memories

For this layout I was dying to try out the Making Memories cork alphabet stickers because I liked the juxtaposition of the pretty pink paper with the earthy colour of the cork. When I opened up the package of alphabet stickers I was impessed to see a sheet of reusable chipboard inside with lines and a pretty floral design – ideal to be used for journaling. Gotta love clever packaging! I used the AccuCut Antique Accent frames to cut out a journaling block and then cut out the matching frame with chocolate brown cardstock which gave me the perfect finishing touch for my layout.

Mojo Monday + Spotlight!

This week we have a fun Mojo Monday challenge for you…

Scrapbook with a friend or family member!

This ties in nicely with our Spotlight for the month of October, featuring Norine Kennell and her two children, Taylor and Tyler. Norine and her two teenage children all share a love for paper crafting and have attended a number of classes here at The Paperie.

Check out this gorgeous layout that Norine made highlighting their family outing in Discovery Cove down in Florida.

We loved Norine’s use of the Gel-a-tins Golly Gee Big Letters - she stamped out the title and then cut out each letter. Alphabet stamps are such a great investment for Scrapbookers because they can be used in so many different ways – these letters look great stamped on patterned paper as well, or you can stamp them on white paper and colour them in with markers, Stickles (glitter glue), etc.

We will be featuring Norine, Taylor and Tyler throughout the month of October, so keep checking back for some fun inspiration for the whole family!

REFER A FRIEND!

Throughout the months of October and November we have a refer a friend program!

Know someone who would love to get started creating beautiful projects, pages and cards? Ask a friend* to join you for a class at the Paperie during the months of October and November and both you and your friend will receive a thank you of 40% OFF one regular priced, in-stock item on the night of the class. And as a bonus, Members friends will receive the Members discount! Discount can be redeemed by customers who have taken classes before as long as the friend is new to the Paperie and is attending their first class. *Friend must not be in our customer database and present valid I.D. at time of registration. Offer does not apply to our Crops on Nov. 20th and 22nd. Limit of one discount per customer per class.

Friday’s Feature – Canvas Craze

We have a very special Paperie Customer Spotlight coming to you for the month of October but you’re going to have to wait a few days… we promise it will be worth it, as we will be featuring a family of Scrapbookers throughout the month!

In the meantime, we have a couple of Canvas projects to share that you may have seen here in the store. Chris used a pack of 14×14 canvases to make these two projects – the first was inspired by a layout we saw in a magazine and basically features 2×2 squares and an alphabet theme.

Her second canvas features an assortment of pictures and papers from the Basic Grey Lemonade collection as well as a variety of BG embellishments.

AccuCut Showcase – Baby Announcements!

My friend just had a baby and for her shower (back in July) I made two Portfolios of Baby Annoucements featuring the A Muse Elephant & Baby stamp, the AccuCut Card Portfolio and an Accent Frame die-cut. Baby Sarah Emily Baird Locke was born on September 17th!

This gift was a real crowd pleaser at my friend Ally’s shower. The two matching portfolios each had 12 annoucements in them (24 total). The elephants on the cards are all cut out of Bo Bunny double dot cardstock and the text was actually printed on the computer. I included a pack of pink photo corners with the gift so she would be able to attach her own chosen photos before sending out the annoucements.

This is just one of the many uses for the AccuCut Card Portfolio die – think thank you notes for Brides, miscellaneous cards for Teachers or Coaches, a great hostest gift, etc. I’ve also used the portfolio and cut it down to size to fit the A Muse 4.25″ square notecards.

In other news we have spent the whole day today putting out piles and piles of  NEW PRODUCT! New Fancy Pants, BoBunny, Cosmo Cricket and some accessories from a company new to The Paperie – My Little Shoebox. See the teasers below:

Mojo Monday – Mix it up

This week we have a challenge that should be easy for many of you…

Make a title out of an assortment of Alphabet letters for your next layout.

Many of you have probably done this before, and for those of you who haven’t – you’re missing out! Personally, I love the look of mixing up a variety of different coloured letters to create a title. It’s a great way to add visual interest to a layout and an even greater way to use up leftover alphabet letters.

For those times when a multi-coloured title might not work, try using ink or embossing powder to alter the colour of the letters. To emboss chipboard letters, just push them face down into your Versamark pad and sprinkle the powder on them, then emboss with a heat gun using an alligator clip or other tool (avoid metal tweezers unless they have a rubber grip, as the heat will travel quickly through the metal and could burn your fingers).

Hope this helps to get some ideas going, happy scrapping!

September Spotlight Week 4

Welcome back for our fourth and final Spotlight week this September with Lesley Ranson. This week Lesley is sharing a layout she made to capture some of her favourite moments and places she visited in Quebec on a vacation two years ago.

By creating a photo collage with 2×2 square photos Lesley was able to make a beautiful, simple layout with minimal supplies. When I saw this page I was immediately impressed with how all the pictures complement each other – the repetition of stone, sky, grass and the few pops of colour throughout the photos make this layout truly effective.

Thanks for sharing your work with us this month Lesley, happy Scrapping!

AccuCut Showcase – Party Time!

For this week’s AccuCut Showcase we have a cute project to show you featuring one of our newest Invitation enclosures. Check out the fun birthday invitation, loot bag and favour box that Chris made with some Fancy Pants Kraft Kutz paper and the AccuCut Die-cutting System.

Chris used 6 AccuCut die-cuts for this project – the AccuCut Tree #1 and the Black Tie Numbers (4) were cut out in coordinating cardstock colours  to decorate the invitation (A7 Pocket Card). Using scraps leftover from the Owl patterned paper, Chris cut out a few owls to adorn the Pillow Box #4 (left) and the Gift Tag #2 (on the Bag #1).

In the coming weeks we’ll be showing you more ideas to use the AccuCut Machine for your next big party or event - we’ll have lots of neat fall and Halloween ideas to share for home decor and parties so be sure to keep checking back every Wednesday!

Mojo Monday – Think Outside the Page

Mojo Monday Challenge for September 21st: Use Scrapbooking techniques or materials to make art for your walls!

This can be as simple as framing a few of your favourite scrapbook papers for quick, inexpensive artwork – I used cheap clip frames and some 12×12 Fancy Pants paper to decorate my bathroom. The best part is that they can be switched out when you get bored – and you can still use them afterward!

Despite the name “Scrapbooking”, not all layouts have to end up in a book – the class Sara taught yesterday was a perfect example of that. Check out the two beautiful canvases she created for class using 8×8 canvases, Making Memories paint and October Afternoon papers and die-cuts.

The adorable altered clothespins were a stroke of genius, allowing you to swap out the pictures in the future. What grandparent wouldn’t love to receive this as a Christmas gift? Personalize your child’s bedroom door with a Canvas featuring their favourite colours, including their name and a candid shot. List some “isms” for the journaling – you know what I’m talking about – those fun and tell-tale characteristics and quirks that make your child unique. Hang a Canvas of your dog or cat above their basket or favourite napping place. You can even make a unique and beautiful wedding gift using a photograph of the bride and groom.

There are lots of options when it comes to Scrapbooking on the wall – you can create a larger collage using co-ordinating papers and different sized canvases like the project we showed you last year. There are tons of different ideas for taking Scrapbooking to the next level – it IS an artform so why not showcase your art around the home!

September Spotlight Week 3

This week we have another wonderful layout for our September Spotlight, featuring Lesley Ranson. Check out the awesome double-paged layout she made to commemorate her son’s participation in space camp. We loved her use of the A Muse stamps (Rocket & To the Moon and Back) on her layout, they tied in perfectly with the theme.

This Cosmo Cricket paper is ideal for the theme and Lesley made great use of the co-ordinating die-cuts, border strips and journaling tags. You’ll have to imagine what the two layouts look like side by side as I have yet to master the “stitch-assist” function on our camera!

Do you have layouts or cards that you’d like to show off? We’d love to feature you on our Blog – drop by the store with your projects and we’ll have a look! The only requirements are that you used products purchased at The Paperie that are currently (or were recently) available; Scraplifts are welcome as long as you give credit to any website or person you may have scraplifted from. Contact Meghan at the store for more details!

AccuCut Showcase – September Calendar

This week we have a cute project to share featuring an AccuCut Tree and the Black Tie Alphabet templates. I’ve been working on a little project for a family member who shall remain nameless – a Scrapbook Calendar! So I thought I would share a different layout each month since each calendar page will feature various AccuCut trees as a jumping off point…

For September the focus was on a Back to School layout. Due to some problems I had with the printer yesterday, I was unable to print the photo but you get the idea.  Even though my neice Brooklyn isn’t actually in school yet, the theme still works because she’s such a little bookworm. I combined two AccuCut Tree dies to create this particular tree and the little apple is a Hero Arts stamp.

Our Spotlight for tomorrow’s Friday Feature will have to wait until Saturday morning so be sure to stayed tuned for another great Layout from Lesley, our featured customer for September.

Mojo Monday – Branch out

Welcome back to our weekly Mojo Monday challenge! Your mission, should you choose to accept it is…

TRY SOMETHING NEW!

I’ve had this challenge in mind since Friday and imagine my surprise when I checked the Hero Arts blog today only to see that they have the exact same challenge!

For this layout I have tried lots of new things! For starters, I used the new Pool Smooch Ink in a few different ways. I was amazed how easily you can use this ink as a colouring tool. One of the floral embellishments was stamped and embossed with the A Muse Open Zinnia stamp and then I used the Pool Smooch ink to colour in the flower. I didn’t even have to worry about staying inside the lines because the ink doesn’t stick to the embossed part of the image. The Hero Arts Heart Winged Butterfly was painted in a similar way, but I thinned out the Smooch ink by first applying it to an acrylic block and then picking up the colour with my H20 Water color brush.

If you would like to try out these techniques and more, give us a call or drop by the store to reserve a kit (while supplies last). This layout was loosely based on a sketch by Anna Bowkis of www.pencillines.com, as seen on the AccuCut Blog last week.

So what are you waiting for? GET SCRAPPING! We’ve all seen a zillion techniques that we’d love to try – some of us have even bought all the supplies and just haven’t gotten around to it. This is your reminder to dig it out and get ‘er done! And most importantly, have fun!

Try some of these wonderful inking techniques taught by Jennifer McGuire of Hero Arts – these videos are a fantastic way to get inspired and try something new!

September Spotlight Week 2

Welcome back for our second Spotlight on Lesley Ranson. This week Lesley has shared a sweet card she made with A Muse stamps that really captures A Muse’s signature style.

Lesley used her handy ColorBee scissors to paper piece the birds and their cute little party hats using different cardstocks. Doesn’t the white piece look like a punched piece? A master with scissors of all kinds, Lesley used some decorative edged scissors to cut out that cute little scalloped rectangle – her corners are so perfect, I almost didn’t believe her!

Stay tuned Monday for our (once-again) weekly Mojo Monday challenge. We’ll also be giving a sneak peek of the Layout for our upcoming Scrapbook Techniques class on Monday evening so don’t forget to tune in!

Spotlight on Lesley!

It’s the first Friday of September and you know what that means! We have a new customer to Spotlight on our Blog every Friday throughout this month…

Welcome Lesley Ranson to The Paperie Blog! Lesley was in our workshop one day cutting out these trees and I told her I was curious to see how they turned out.

Lesley’s use of the AccuCut flowers combined with the small bare tree was inspiring – love the little chipboard bird nestled in among the foilage.  The titles were all cut out from some Theresa Collins paper and more TC paper was used for the coordinating page below.

How cute are those little Maya Road chipboard people?! Lesley paper pieced their little outfits and even their hair – yep, they started out completely NAKED! The baby in the little sleeper takes the cake, because that little baby boy started out as a girl with a skirt! With a bit of clever cutting Lesley was able to make this little chipboard family a perfect replica of her neice’s family.

That’s all from us today -  thanks to Lesley for allowing us to showcase your work on our Blog this week, we look forward to sharing more of your work next Friday!

Friday’s Features – August Spotlight

This week our Spotlight on Wendy Skinner continues – this time we have one of Wendy’s beautiful cards to share with you…

This card features the beautiful Heart Winged Butterfly stamp from Hero Arts – if you visit their Blog you have probably seen this stamp used a hundred different ways. Love Wendy’s use of distress inks here on the strip on the left.

Speaking of talented local paper crafters, we must send a shout-out to Jennifer Loder of Bay Roberts who was published in the most recent Fall issue of Canadian Scrapbooker. We just received our shipment yesterday and did a quick scan to see if we recognized any names. Congratulations on your publication Jennifer, you’ll have to sign our copy next time you pop by The Paperie! Word has it that Michelle Marks of Corner Brook will be published in the Winter issue, so stay tuned for that! If you or someone you know is getting published let us know so we can send a shout out, and if YOU haven’t submitted yet, what are you waiting for?!

Also new to hit the shelves this week were NEW stamps the Hero Arts Holiday 2009 Catalog - some are sold out already! We are doing another pre-order up until September 1st, so give us a call or email if you’d like to order any Hero Arts stamps.
