Rae Lynn here with the seven pages I created from the October Page Kit: three 12×12 layouts and four 8.5×11 layouts.
This year our Keeping Track of Life class is using an 8.5×11 album. In addition to the 2-page spread and the divided page protector that we complete with Krista during KTOL class, I’m adding a monthly calendar and another 8.5×11 page for each month. But I was behind on those extra pages, so I created four pages from the October kit to catch up on my missing months for May, June, July and August.
Layout 1: She is Awesome
I cut the black cardstock (CS) to 8.5×11 and the White and Black polka dot pattern paper to 3×11. I then used some washi tape from my stash to create a vertical divider between the CS and pattern paper. I also put a small strip of washi in the upper right corner of the page. I then took about 24” of white thread and loosely looped it. I placed the thread partially behind my photo and adhered the photo. Next, I used the October Afternoon alpha stickers to spell out SHE IS directly on my photo. The AWESOME sticker is from the BasicGrey sticker sheet. I used pop-dots to adhere the sticker. I also adhered (and trimmed) the arrow sticker in the upper right corner. I finished that area off with a flare badge from my stash and some of the enamel dots included in the October kit. Finally, a bit of journaling at the bottom of the page (with a white pen) to document that the picture of Mom and I was taken on Mother’s Day. (And yes, my Mom is totally awesome. She’s got a heart bigger than her body and I love more than all the stars in the universe.)
Layout 2: Ali’s Grade 6 Grad
The kit includes three specialty papers this month and I used two of them on this layout – the turquoise fiber paper and gold shimmer cardstock. I trimmed the turquoise paper to 8.5×11 and then the gold paper to be about 0.5” smaller. I also used the turquoise paper to mat the photo of Aliceyn and myself. One of the pattern papers included in the kit has circles in multiple colours (orange, green, beige, navy, turquoise, yellow, teal). I used a bunch of my circle punches to cut out some turquoise, navy, green, and beige circles in different sized. I sanded the edges of the circles and then adhered them using my tape runner and pop-dots on either side of the photo. I also added a few enamel dots into the mix. Next, I needed alphas but I wanted white alphas…so I grabbed the Thickers (woodgrain brown) included in the kit and sanded them back so the brown was gone. I grabbed a thick navy washi tape from my stash and added that below the photo/circles. I adhered the “white” Thickers using Glossy Accents to the washi tape.
Layout 3: You & Me
I cut the arrow pattern paper to 8.5×11 and added a small 3×8.5 piece of the red CS to the bottom of the page and a narrow red strip at the top of the page. Then I added some grey polka dot washi from my stash to create a divide between the PP and CS and then a small strip washi at the top as well. I adhered the black and white sticker frame from the BasicGrey sticker sheet to my photo and used pop-dots to add the photo to the page. The title YOU & ME is from the October Afternoon alphas. I added a Simple Story metal brad from my stash and some of the enamel dots. Add the top of the page I added the circle 2 sticker and an arrow sticker from the sticker sheet. The HAPPY letters are the smaller alpha included in the October Afternoon package. Lastly, I broke out my trusty ruler and added some lines for my journaling.
Layout 4: You are my Cloud #9
The third specialty paper in the kit is a beautiful sheet of vellum clouds from Shimelle. It is sooo pretty. I cut both the white CS in the kit and the vellum to 8.5×11. I used microdots to adhere the vellum to the cardstock. I matted my photo in a piece of the red cardstock and adhered that directly to the page. From the left over piece of vellum, I fussy cut out some of the clouds. I then cut pop-dots into tine-tiny pieces and placed them behind the cut-out cloud and added them to the page. Voila – some dimensional clouds. I finished the page off with some red and teal alphas left over from last year’s KTOL class. This is a super simple page but I didn’t want anything to take away from the vellum cloud paper.
Layout 5: Blake / Nanny’s Boy
Here is another simple page of my cousin’s little boy! Isn’t he a cutie? Those eyes! The colour in Blake’s flannel shirt matched perfectly with this pattern paper. I sanded the edges of both photos and adhered them to the page. Next I grabbed the arrow sticker from the BasicGrey sticker sheet. This sticker included the words “go this way” but I simply trimmed them off to create a smaller arrow. I used pop-dots to add the arrow to my page. Next, I added the title stickers. Both are from the October Afternoon package (it includes two different size alphas). I finished the top of the page off with a barcode strip, a punched circle/star and some enamel dots.
Layout 6: I Love Autumn
I trimmed the Kraft CS down to a 10.5×10.5 square, inked it with brown ink, and then adhered it to the Orange pattern paper leaving an even border around all four sides. I sanded the edges of my photo and adhered it to the Kraft CS, tucking one of the include kraft pockets included in the kit underneath for some hidden journaling. A few inches below my photo, I used my mini-dots stencil and Frayed Burlap distress ink to create a pattern of dots on the Kraft CS. Next, I cut out and adhered the barcodes from three of the pattern papers included in the kit (never throw them away – they come in handy when you next just a touch of pattern/colour). Below those, I added my title. I added five enamel dots above my photo. Some more ruled lines and my journaling finished off the page.
Layout 7: Good Morning From
This was the simplest page of all. I literally stuck four pictures to the page and added some alphas and journaling. My husband and I were recently on our “staycation” and one morning we were up super early – so I said “Let’s go to Signal Hill to watch the sun come up.” We jumped in the truck and headed to the hill where I snapped a ton of pictures. Afterwards, we stopped at Quidi Vidi, Middle Cove Beach, and Pouch Cove. I used the Beautiful Mess app on my phone to add text to each picture (such as “Good Morning From Signal Hill”). I printed four of my Instagram pictures from that day. The colours in my pictures matched perfectly with the colours on the edges of the paper. I used the October Afternoon alphas to add my “GOOD MORNING FROM” title between the pics in the middle of the page (which mimics the text I had added on my photos). I then added some journaling in the square around my Instagram pics. Quickest page ever!
We love what Rae Lynn did with the kit – gorgeous layouts!
