Sharing Our Story

It is of no surprise to anyone reading this that crafting truly has many benefits. We feel better while we craft, and as paper crafters, we reap the rewards of spending time with our pages, our cards, our books and our stories.

And that is really what it’s all about- sharing our stories.

Our story is a one we are proud to share. We started out with an idea of being able to provide a local spot to shop for paper crafting materials. But it grew to be so much more than that. This small, local business quickly became a community. Right from the first time our customers peeked into the windows as Chris & Janna set up shop in May 2004.

Our customers became our community. Story telling and story sharing. We created things with our hands, we learned from each other and we shared the happenings of our everyday lives through our photos and our pages.

But like every good book, the story does come to an end. And this is where we end ours.

With heavy hearts we have decided to close our shop, The Paperie, in July. Life presents us with many difficult decisions, and this was one of them for us. There were many things to consider, and many factors in play, but we have chosen to close the shop and focus our energies exclusively on our families and our lives as two very busy working moms.

We want to thank our customers and our friends who have supported our local business so much over the years. We appreciate your business and we appreciate you sharing your stories with us.
Thank you to our employees who were so valuable in helping us create the community that we have.
A giant shout-out to our local instructors who have shared their creative skills and spirits with us and whom have added so much to the education offering of our business. This was always so important to us!
Thank you also to the many talented instructors who have visited our shop and our island over the years. We have benefited greatly from your beautiful work!
A special thank you to our families who have stood by us and were so understanding of our time away from you so we could spend time with The Paperie.

As we prepare to say goodbye over the next couple of months, a reminder to our customers who have gift cards or coupons, please come in to redeem them while the product selection is best. We are not responsible for misplaced gift cards or coupons and we are no longer issuing frequent buyer stamps to customers for purchases.

Our class schedule for June and July have been updated and are posted on our blog under the heading Classes.  Please call or email us to register.

We will make every attempt to fill any product requests that have already been placed , depending on current product availability. We will not be accepting any specific product requests after May 31,2017.

We will also make every attempt to complete all bridal orders that have been placed currently, but are no longer accepting new orders.

Please continue to support the local small businesses in our community.

With heartfelt thanks,
Janna & Wendy

Book of Me

Instructor: Rae Lynn O’Keefe

Capturing our family life is important, but if you’re the one documenting everyone else, how will your family or children remember your favourite colour, movie, food, or your daily routine, what makes you happy or sad? This layout series is bi-monthly and will help you capture a little bit about yourself, and make you think about and share “your everyday things to the heartfelt things.” We will make two layouts in each class, which will include at least one photo of yourself, or a photo that means something to you, and some handwritten journaling to express how you feel about the layout topic.

  • 80 lb Neenah card stock – card panels
  • Memento Tuxedo black ink

  • Lawn Fawn ” celebration script sayings” stamp set
  • Jane’s Doodles “Spring Blessings” stamp set

  1. cut and scor A2 card bases
  2. Cut card panels
  3. cut one sentiment strip
  4. stamp flower images (for the lupin shaped flowers) – no idea what they actually are!
  5. *for these flowers I stamped one image out to use as a mask to lay down so when I stamped the flower on the right it looks like it’s behind the other one.

Retreat Weekend Class Hype!

We are eager to set out on our 24th Retreat Weekend! One of the many perks of the weekend away is the chance to take a class or two! This weekend we welcome a new instructor to the Retreat Lineup – Cathy Caines! She has some cards planned for us, but in the meantime, check out this blog post she did for us recently!

I am not a cat person.

But I know a lot of cat people.

So, I must love cat stamps, right?

Hmmm. Confused?

Me too.

Welcome to my life.

It’s me. Cathy Caines.  And my first time hanging out on The Paperie Blog.

This Cats polymer stamp set was created by a small company named Jane’s Doodles. Based out of Croatia, Jane Beljo, the owner of this company hand draws each image to perfection. I’ve recently added the Lily stamp to my collection as well as the Unicorns stamp set and I can’t wait to grow my stash to include Seamus. My daughter’s name is Jane so I feel an odd connection to Jane’s Doodles…

With any card, I begin designing a card by stamping multiple images.  In this case, I heat embossed with clear embossing powder and black pigment ink onto Canson XL water colour paper. Note that if you are fast, you can even use most archival inks with clear embossing powder.

Why do I use clear embossing powder rather than black embossing powder? Simply put – I am lazy.  You don’t have to be as careful with clear embossing powder… there’s no such thing as those little bits of black powder showing up in places where it shouldn’t.

I love to watercolour.  There are many ways that you can do this.  This time, I used my Tim Holtz distress inks by “stamping” them onto my mat and using a waterbrush pen to spread the water onto the card.

Simple cards are my jam.

Although this is a super cute card even for me it was too plain.

For my next card, I played with the different cats and the fish… Finally settling in on a sleepy cat dreaming of tuna.

With a heart to boot.

Well… That’s purr-fect.

Thanks for dropping by.
