Mojo Monday – Nov.23/15 – Go Undercover

Happy Monday! Happy Mojo Monday!!

This week our challenge is to share handmade kindness with someone unsuspecting.

This is the last week of Jennifer McGuire’s #sharehandmadekindess challenge . For those of you who are hearing about it for the first time, or you would like a recap, here’s how Jennifer explains the challenge: “I think every one of us can agree that we love to create — cards, scrapbook pages, treats, and more. Making things by hand makes us happy. And when we share these creations with others, we also share that happiness. There’s nothing better! It’s a simple act of kindness that can brighten someone’s day and leave a lasting impression… and our world needs more kindness.”

Week One of the challenge was to share kindness with Friends and Family Members.

Week Two of the challenge was to share kindness with those who work in our Community.

Week Three of the challenge is to share kindness with Kids.

This week’s challenge is to share kindness with a Stranger. Jennifer shares ideas like leaving a kind message on someone’s windshield or paying for the person behind you when you are in the drive thru for your coffee this week. But there are so many ways that you can share kindness with someone you don’t know.

I mentioned a couple of week’s ago that our primary school is participating in its own Acts of Kindness week this week. The children and teachers will all be participating in various activities that promote kindness towards others. On Thursday, we are asking the children to “go undercover.” They are all so excited and are planning now how they are are going to do a good deed for someone in the school without that person knowing anything about it. It’s so awesome to hear them chatting and planning what they can come up with.

As teachers, we have our Secret Friend week as a part of this. We each drew a name randomly and will spend the week doing kind things for that person incognito. It’s tons of fun and the element of surprise makes it even better. I was delighted this morning to arrive at work to a special treat wrapped for me with a handwritten note on my desk.

So tonight, I am sitting at my desk planning my “secret good deed” for tomorrow. I think I will share some handmade kindness by bundling some Christmas cards that I made, and my Secret Friend can use them this year with her friends and family.

Have fun with this week’s challenge! I hope you are able to create something special for someone who least expects it 🙂

“A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.” Amelia Earhart

Mojo Monday – Nov.16/15 – Get them Involved

Happy Monday! Happy Mojo Monday!!

This week our challenge is to include others in the creation of your project.

This fall both my husband and I celebrate our 40th birthdays. My husband’s is today. When I asked him what he wanted for his birthday, he said “pictures of the boys.” I decided to use this idea and create a special mini album for him to mark the occasion. My three boys and I went through lots and lots of photos and chose 40 that told some kind of story about them and their dad. The album is “40 Reasons why we love you.”

The boys took turns, one after the other, writing a reason next to each of the 40 photos of what they loved about their dad in that photo. The creation of the project ended up being a wonderful experience for me, because I got to sit and listen to them laughing and sharing the photos with each other and deciding what they would write. They did all of their own printing, which was quite the feat for our youngest at 6.

The end result is a gift that is meaningful to us all as a family. The boys got to invest their time and thoughts into a gift for their dad, I got to put it all together and my husband was so overwhelmed when they shared it with him this morning. All around a truly meaningful project.

I really believe it is a good idea to involve those we love in what we create. I want my family to spend time with the albums we have and know about the story we are telling together. By having them participate, whether it’s writing, cutting, assembling, or just offering a comment for your journaling, it is a beneficial practice to have them involved.

Mojo Monday – Nov.2/15 – Make Time

Happy Monday! Happy Mojo Monday!!

This week our challenge is to make time to create.

Our lives are so busy – jam packed full of busy work days, bringing children back and forth to their activities and just keeping up with the routines of our lives. There is no doubt for any of us paper crafters though, that the time we spend making things with our hands, is so beneficial. Allowing yourself the time to create is so worth it, but sometimes it has to be scheduled. Much like scheduling a piano lesson or a trip to the hair salon, we sometimes have to pencil in when we will sit and create.

Funny enough, My Happy Planner lets me feel as though I am organizing my routine, recording what’s happening – in a creative way. 🙂

I like to keep my current project open on my desk so that when I walk by, if I have a few minutes here and there, I can add something to what I have on the go. This weekend, I am spending time working on the Paperie’s Exclusive Retreat Page Kit. Many of our customers are heading out this weekend to join us at our 21st Scrapbook Retreat weekend. Our bi-annual Retreats are definitely a weekend all to yourself with time dedicated to creating with your hands, and spending time with friends.

Here’s a sneak peek of what I am working on for the kit 😉
